About us

I formed Duxhurst Quilting six years ago and work from my home in Surrey.

Longarm quilting machine
I made my first quilt in 1978 and was immediately hooked. Aside from the pleasure of making something for the home that could actually be used, the excitement of using colour struck me then and still continues to do so.

It was because of wanting to use new ranges of fabrics and different colours I, like so many other patchwork and quilters, ended up with, shall we say, numerous unfinished tops.

Fabric and quilts
In 2002, I was given the opportunity to train on, and then purchase, a Gammill Classic Longarm Quilting Machine. I then purchased, in 2007, an Intelliquilter which takes me into the realms of computerised quilting. It takes the form of a tablet/laptop which sits on my Gammill and enables me to fit designs to the size of the quilt top, download patterns via USB (so no waiting for delivery from the postman), flip or offset alternate rows, and there are many other possibilities. I do, however, still have the option to operate my Gammill manually either freehand quilting or using patterns.

If individual customers, or small quilting groups, would like to visit my workshop, I would be pleased to arrange a time and date with you, for example 10am to 12noon, including cake and refreshments. There is an approximate charge of £7.50 per head.
