Quilting & other services
Overall Quilting
This is an edge-to-edge quilting service with many patterns to choose from - some Simple and some Complex designs - literally covering the whole quilt. It is possible over some
appliquéd work too.
Simple patterns are less dense and therefore appear 'softer' than complex patterns.
Complex patterns are particularly useful if the 'top' design is uncomplicated or perhaps only 2 or 3 different fabrics have been used.
Custom Quilting
The quilting is 'customised' to suit your top whether it be feathers, block motifs or freehand work.
Custom Quilting is charged at £19 per hour - minimum charge of £80 per quilt.
Basting
If you prefer to machine quilt yourself or traditionally hand quilt, I can offer a basting service whereby your quilt top, wadding and backing is securely basted one direction in 4" intervals.
Binding
For those who don't like binding, we will finish your quilt with straight-grain, double-folded binding in the fabric of your choice (to be supplied by you with the quilt top). Corners will be mitred, and the back secured by hand with concealed stitches.
Alternatively, we can just attach your binding to your top (with mitred corners), leaving you to secure it by hand. There are two separate prices for this service.
Preparation of your quilt
There are just a couple of things to keep in mind before you deliver or send your quilt top.
Your backing and wadding should be a minimum of 3" larger, all round, than the top to be quilted.
If your backing fabric is pieced, please join with a half inch seam, pressed open.
Please snip all thread ends.
We will 'square' the backing, but we never trim the quilt tops.
If you require one of the quilt edges to be treated as the top (for example to keep flower directions), please label it.
Please press your top and backing.
Our care of your quilt
While your quilt is with us at Duxhurst Quilting it will be stored on a racking system, in a smoke-free and pet-free environment.
Thread
We always use 100% cotton thread for quilting and basting. We usually use Italian Aurifil thread but if you require something different we can discuss it.
Delivery of your finished quilt
Your finished quilt will be tissue-wrapped and ribboned. You are welcome to visit Duxhurst Quilting by appointment, to collect your quilt, or of course we can post it to you.
